i hereby issue the first official "frillseekers challenge" to aging cowgirl.she's a little squirmy when i suggested she should wear this garb out in public and look fabulous the whole while (you know..make a few waves in new haven). so i suggested we post a pic of her and request some frillseeker input on the right accessories to wear to really make the full "look" sing! i also suggest we offer ideas for what she should be DOING while dressed as such.
the challenge is on! suggestions must commence! and we shall render the appropriate verdict on which scenario will be reenacted by aging cowgirl...with of course a full report back on how fabulous she was.

and to clarify, aging cowgirl, what are the precise colors of the outfit? (just in case the photo does not translate well)
for the love of kaftans! would you be willing to lop it off to knee-length? otherwise i worry desi people might think you're out in your pjs.
i do think it very appropo as hostess wear for the fab party you throw. perhaps with some wood bangles and dangly earrings.

I think this outfit is best for lounging around at home while painting your nails and chatting on the phone. Having the girls over for ice cream sundaes also sounds like a perfect activity. My kaftan inspiration is starbright oogi who always knows how to make it work, so if she says "pj potential", I believe her. Cutting it off at the knees could be really cute but the fabric (silk) is thin and a little see-through. I don't think it would drape well at a shorter length (unless I weighted the hem). The colors on it are a blue-green (more emerald than teal), black and white batik and I do feel mah-toor and glamorous when I wear it, but. . .

hmmm...i am still not convinced. big ups to starbright oogi for making the attempt to rise to the challenge!!! i would add some high cork wedges...maybe you can slap on one of those huge belts of the moment. ;)
I'll raise your huge belt, J, with some leggings (capri length) and flat thong ankle wrap sandals. I'd stick with bold earrings in antiqued silver or bronze, no necklaces with this outfit.
Another suggestion: ruch up the sleeves yourself with some type of brooches or clips; hem the caftan to mid-calf length; wear a thinner belt or maybe some black ribbon (km where you at?) at the waist; add some of those cork wedges; and your hair in a casual updo.
How'd I do? Maybe I'll have to draw a diagram :P
Oh and what you should be doing, like so many models in "Lucky", for the first suggestion, is browsing a charming used bookshop while carrying a bunch of flowers and a baguette. And your accompanying bag should be ginormous.
But then maybe a clutch for the second suggestion, and you should be standing by a window looking very sultry but only a little buzzed.
wow. i just knew it. i KNEW zuppe would come through in the clutch.
i think the best option is the calf-length and sleeve rouching with the corke wedges. and extra extra special points for getting specific on the place that you should be for wearing such a fly outfit. gawd! aging cowgirl you HAVE to do it! you HAFTA! i would even throw in a little cloth headband and big earrings (along with the aforementioned HUGE purse of course).
zuppe! you gotta work on this girl to realize our combined vision!!! (oh. okay. actually more your vision...but whatevs)

In the August Lucky there is a spread on kimono-inspired dresses! The dresses have v-necks, wide waistbands, and billowy sleeves. They hit at knee-length and Lucky recommends wearing with a rugged stacked heel. I really like the look and my kaftan, ahem, experiment gave me a taste of how flattering the style can be.
so are ya gonna go for it!?!? with the shortening of the skirt?!?!? inquiring minds want to know.
I just got back from Forever 21. The fitting room attendant called me ma'am and that made me happy because although I think Forever 21 is fab, I am not 21, 16 or even 24. To girls of those ages, I deserve to be a ma'am. At f21 I purchased a kimono top, silky black with different colored flowers (good with jeans) and a kimono-style dress. The dress has a V-neck, a sash at the waist that ties in the back. It is cotton and an everyday piece; black and white flower motifs, almost art nouveau but not quite. It is not as fabulous as if I turned my kaftan into a dress, but it is wearable and most importantly, already made. I think I am also hestitating on the kaftan because I like it as a kaftan--it is perfect for lounging in and having you, my girls, tell me I look glamorous afterhours.
oh. okay.
let's make a deal then: you take a picture of yourself in your new kimono dress and i'll put up my postings of the mini-wrapdress collection that i've finally accumulated (thanks in large part to the end of the garment workers center/sweatshop watch boycott of forever 21)
