I know lilbunny has participated in a pie-eating contest and starbright oogi's husband makes a mean pumpkin pie, but I wanted to take a poll:
What is your favorite pie?
My favorite is lemon meringue and the activity for this evening is to make a cake inspired by the classic. It is a Martha Stewart recipe so that means lots of butter and even more steps. I will report back.

I don't think I have a favorite kind of pie because so few seem to involve chocolate. Even Boston Cream Pie and Chocolate Cream Pie don't really have much chocolate flaveur. Maybe Peanut Butter Cup Pie? I may have had something like that once.
It's true that pies aren't the best conduit for chocolate. A lot of them involve those pesky things called fruits ;)
So my Lemon Meringue Pie Cake was a disaster. It took 3+ hours and almost made me late for Top Chef. The cake ended up being dry and the meringue was too sweet and didn't form the "stiff peaks" (stop snickering) that I was hoping for. The only saving grace was the lemon curd that was delightfully tangy and creamy.
kudos to ac for even taking on the lemon meringue pie! i do like pumpkin pie but i do have to admit really liking hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream!
oogi-man puts in a vote for pumpkin pie.
but ac, it is cruel to make me choose. i can tell you what i am not too fond of-- shoefly, pecan and anything with a caramel/brown sugar/molasses base.
i like apple, cherry, pumpkin, lemon meringue, key lime. cream pies can be a bit much, but i won't discount them.
and even given all these likes, i still consider myself a cake person :)
I can't stop snickering. Aging Cowgirl, promise me we'll executive produce a gay porn take-off of 'Top Chef' called "Stiff Peaks"... please? with vanilla ice cream on top?
