i *love* the soapiness of the show. it reminds me of one of my shows in the early '90s -- Sisters-- did anyone watch that? ga might have annoying meredith, but it doesn't have those dumb flashback scenes.
Did Sisters have Sela Ward? I love Sela Ward. She adds soapiness in her wake, whereever she treds. The good kind. The kind I can't get enough of.
Last week's was a rerun, but not one I'd seen before. It was kinda a critical one, I guess, 'cause that's when Derek make "the choice." And not that I'm a Deredith fan or nothing, and it is a little scary how much tequilla that little little gal can put away, but I was very very sad for her. It didn't help that she was the only one trying to save the girl who had a pole put through her.
The whole thing was melodrama with the cap M and the cap D. I knew my emotions were being used and abused and yet, I relished ever single second of it. If I had to do my Women and Popular Culture final paper again, it could very well be on G.A.
I liked Sisters-- the characters were complicated and there were different types of relationships that were at the center---sisters, of course, and husbands/lovers, and kids, and real friendships, not the banter between yang and meredith that is supposed to pass for friendship. I don't want to rain on the g.a. parade, or maybe i do, but the soapiness isn't frothy enough or something. i want to like it--- but meredith is so not charismatic and the voiceover structure doesn't work because the dialogue isn't sharp.

*sigh* but my life just feels so empty with our project runway. top chef is just not holdin' down the wednesday night routine. :(
